SCENA Theatre is Washington DC's premier cultural institution for the dramatic arts. It brings the best international plays to DC, stimulates cultural exchange between local and international artists, and nurtures original material for the stage. SCENA also tours innovative productions to prestigious European theatres and festivals. Founded in 1987 under the leadership of Artistic Director Robert McNamara and Managing Director Amy Schmidt, SCENA produces an annual season of plays, special events, and a Workshop Series to develop bold, new plays from around the globe. Ultimately, SCENA Theatre plays a unique and vital role in our theatre community by presenting exceptional international works that are second to none.
